Puss in Boots FAQs

How do I know the ballet is about to start?

The lights will dim, and there will be someone talking over the speaker to tell us the show is about to begin. Settle in and enjoy!

Do the dancers talk?

No – unlike a play or movie, the dancers will instead tell the story with their movements, gestures, and facial expressions, all set to music.

When can I clap?

If a dancer does something you like, you can clap! People usually clap between scenes, at the end of a big dance, and at the end of the performance while the dancers take their bows. If you really like the performance, you can even stand up at the end for a standing ovation.

How do you know when the next scene begins?

Between each scene, the lights will go out. This is called a “blackout.” Can you see some of the behind-the-scenes work happening when it’s dark to set up the next scene?

Can you laugh during a ballet performance?

Yes! If something is funny, you can react. Because ballet is performed live, the dancers are also reacting to each other and the audience.

Is Puss’ sword real?

Yes – but it is a sword specially made for the stage, so it cannot hurt anyone.

What if I need to go to the bathroom?

If you need to go to the bathroom during the show, try to be as sneaky as Puss! Quietly slip out of the seats when there is a pause in the action.
