At Ballet Co. Laboratory (BCL), collaboration is at the forefront of our work, as it is the pulse of learning and creation. As a professional ballet company and school, we strive to collaborate with our community in surprising new ways to challenge the stereotypes and culture of ballet – helping to evolve the art form forward. BCL believes in the transformative power of experimentation, innovation, and making the impossible come to life.

Our Company

The Ballet Co. Laboratory Company includes nine company artists, six trainees, and four guest artists under the direction of Artistic Director Zoé Emilie Henrot. With five company productions each season, BCL reaches diverse audiences of all ages and backgrounds with our unique mix of classic and contemporary repertoire. The company is committed to creating new works highlighting athleticism, storytelling, and distinctive collaborations to continue fostering a new generation of dancers and dance supporters.

Touring Repertoire

BCL’s Company repertoire includes works for 6 to 35 dancers and features a wide range of styles. Full-length productions and abbreviated performances can be tailored to the presenter’s desires. Community master classes and lectures may also be offered in presenting cities.

NUTCRACKER IN WONDERLAND

GENTLE HUMAN

Inspired by a life-changing event in the company’s history, and Nikita Gill’s poem Wild Embers, Gentle Human is a portrait of young artists fighting to find meaning and purpose against the odds.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS

Inspired by the Gene Kelly musical, this fun-filled 1950s tale is fueled by story-telling and romance with a jazzy Gershwin score.

BELLA LUNA


PREMIERE: 2014

This “Tristan and Isolde” tale of tragic love plays out under the glow of the moon as our two lovers’ relationship proves to be no match for tradition and deceit.

REMEMBERING THE LITTLE PRINCE

A choreographic exploration of the many aspects of women’s mental health.


 

 

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

·       Minimum stage dimensions of 30-40 feet wide x 20-35 feet deep

·       Even wood floor, preferably sprung

·       Marley dance floor covering entire performance surface (BCL has touring Marley for rent if needed)

·       Sound system with sufficient amplification and speaker coverage of entire auditorium

·       Industry-standard light board

·       Two monitors onstage with independent control

·       Minimum of two dressing rooms

·       Minimum 4-hour tech time (not including set up of lighting and floor)
