2023 Fall/Winter Development Internship

Ballet Co.Laboratory’s Development Internship is designed for individuals interested in learning about arts administration with a special concentration on fundraising events and campaigns. The ideal candidate for this internship will have exceptional organizational / written / interpersonal skills, and creativity.

 

Internship Activities

-       Assist with the coordination and implementation of our largest fundraising efforts of the year: annual benefit performance on Saturday, October 14  / Give to the Max Day on Thursday, November 16 / Nutcracker in Wonderland on December 8 – 10 / Calendar Year End mail and email campaign

o   Learning Outcomes: event planning, written and verbal communications, teamwork, problem-solving, attention to detail, and time management.

-       Research and secure vendors for the benefit event to provide services and supplies for the event.

 o   Learning Outcomes: research, vendor relations, and budgeting.

-       Solicitation of silent auction items for the benefit event. This could include assistance with research, solicitation follow up, entering of packages into online auction software, assisting committee members with the collection of items, and setup/presentation of packages at the event.

o   Learning Outcomes: fundraising strategies, committee work, written communication, database management, and interpersonal relations.

-       Assist with marketing efforts to attract new guests to the event and excite those who have already purchased tickets to the benefit event and/or Nutcracker in Wonderland.

o   Learning Outcomes: written and social media marketing.

-       Input data, spreadsheet maintenance, and creation of reports.

 o   Learning Outcomes: database management and analysis of data.

 -       Support the creation of fundraising materials by assisting with the development of campaigns from original concept to delivery for both Give to the Max Day and our Calendar Year End fundraising campaigns.

o   Learning Outcomes: drafting copy/images for: solicitation letters, electronic appeals, social media, crowdfunding, BCL website, and integrated asks within ticket/class purchases.

-       Help organization thank donors through thank you letters, thank you calls, and donor benefits coordination.

o   Learning Outcomes: how to cultivate and steward donors to show them gratitude, impact of support, and efforts to strengthen relationships.

-       Other duties as assigned.

 

Application Requirements

To ensure an optimal experience for the intern, the following is required to apply:

-       Start date will be the week of September 11 and run through December 15. Intern must be able to work a regular work schedule of 16 hours per week during normal office hours, with an increase of hours the week of October 9 – 14 due to benefit duties.

-       Must be able to work October 14, November 16, and December 8 – 10.

-       Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

-       Excellent writing skills.

-       Strong organizational and time management skills.

-       Good interpersonal communication skills.

-       Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

-       Willingness to learn.

 

INTERNSHIP LOCATION

Intern will fulfill their hours at the Ballet Co.Laboratory’s studios located at 276 E Lafayette Frontage Road in St. Paul. A $1,500 stipend will be provided (1/2 paid in October and final payment in December). Parking is free and all drop-in/workshop adult classes are offered at no cost to the intern during their time of service.
