We are thrilled to finally announce the new Ballet Co.Laboratory studios! Our new home will be located in the Riverview Business Plaza at 276 East Lafayette Frontage Road in St Paul. We will have three gorgeous studios with natural light, as well as gender neutral, ADA accessible restrooms and shower. The space will also include a welcoming reception area, lobby with ample seating and dedicated study/work space, changing rooms, staff lounge, and storage space with a costume shop. The building also has free parking, and is accessible by Metro Transit.
We have learned much through the process of creating our new studio in Saint Paul, the most important of which is what an extraordinary community we have. We cannot fully express the appreciation we have for all of your excitement and patience as we journey through this first year of our new school and organization. The space is fantastic and we cannot wait to have our community make it twirl, spring and jeté into life!
We have also learned that despite heroic efforts, we cannot bend the course of construction to our will. As you know, we had a serious setback when a few sub-contractors did not arrive late last week to perform crucial finishing work on the studio.
Of utmost importance is the safety and comfort of our students, families and staff. The beginning of this week brings snow and dangerously cold weather conditions which may set back the final touches to the space further and thus the space would not be safe for students and families. St Paul Public Schools has already canceled schools for tomorrow, Monday, and we anticipate more cancelations with the cold in the coming days. In order to ensure that the necessary work in the studio is in fact complete and keep all students and families safe (and warm) we have made the difficult decision to cancel all classes at Ballet Co.Laboratory Monday-Thursday this week. We will be begin all classes in the new space on Friday, February 1, 2019. This is disappointing news to have to give as board members, company artists and teaching artists of Ballet Co.Laboratory, however beginning classes later in the week will allow us to enjoy the new space in a manner that allows everyone to participate safely, fully and comfortably.
Dear Ballet Co.Laboratory Community,
Happy New Year! 2018 was a wonderful year. On September 5 we started classes, on October 8 we performed On Our Terms for a lovely audience, on December 3 we signed our lease and started construction on our new home, and on December 14 we premiered Nutcracker in Wonderland to enthusiastic audiences. We are so excited to continue our journey with you into 2019.
Our new studio space in Saint Paul is looking fantastic. We have the plumbing almost complete, the walls are framed, electrical work is almost done, the ceiling is painted, and materials for completion are being scheduled and shipped. However, due to the holidays, we need an additional two weeks to put the final touches on our new home. Gethsemane Episcopal Church in Minneapolis has graciously agreed to extend our stay for these additional two weeks to allow for completion of construction. We are eternally grateful to the family at Gethsemane for their generosity. And to the Ballet Co.Laboratory community, we appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support.
The following Drop-In Classes will be held at Gethsemane Church between now and January 18, 2019:
Wednesday, January 2, 2019 – 10-11:30am Intermediate Teen/Adult with Jeffrey Hankinson

Thursday, January 17, 2019 – 10-11:30am Gentle Teen/Adult with Anna Goodrich
Some other morning classes may be added depending on faculty and staff availability. Evening drop-in classes for Second Semester will begin on January 21, 2019 when we have space to accommodate those classes.
No classes will be held on Saturday, January 19 as we will be moving the sprung floor from Gethsemane to our new home. All are welcome to help install the sprung floor! There are tasks for all ages and abilities in springing a dance floor – stenciling the location of the foam blocks, gluing the foam blocks, handing the foamed pieces to people in the studio and screwing the top and bottom floor layers together! Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering your time over this weekend.
Thank you so much for being part of Ballet Co.Laboratory. We cannot believe how far we have come thanks to each and every one of you. If you are interested in seeing the new space springing into life, please feel free to meet me there during one of the following times and I will give you the grand tour!
Tuesday, January 1 – 11:00am or 1:00pm
Friday, January 4 – 10:00am or 11:00am
Saturday, January 5 – 12:00pm
Please reach out with any questions you may have or if you want to hear more about volunteer opportunities.
The raw space
In our search for space we knew we had to find a home with high ceilings, minimal pillars, opportunity for natural light and free and ample parking. Our space has one pillar that we will use to create a wall in between two of our three studios. We will also be installing windows in place of the two garage doors to provide for natural light in every studio!
