FIRST TIME AT THE BALLET

We love introducing people to the art form and athleticism of ballet. Read on the learn what to expect from your experience and reach out to us via email or phone if you have questions not answered here.

BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE

  • Doors to the theater lobby open 1 hour before a performance. Here you can enjoy pre-show concessions and visit our merchandise table to buy a memento for yourself or your favorite performer.

The theater itself (the “house”) will open 30 minutes prior to the time on your ticket so. At this time, guests can find their seats and look through the printed program to learn more about the production and our dancers.

*Please allow extra time for unexpected traffic, parking, and a restroom visit before the show.

  • Should you arrive late, please find an usher stationed at the theater entrance to help you find your seat. You will be asked to wait until an appropriate pause in the performance to be seated, to minimize disruptions to other guests and the performers.

  • Wear what makes you feel good! It can be fun to dress up for the ballet, and some of our guests use the theme of the show as inspiration, but we invite you to come as you are.

DURING THE PERFORMANCE

  • The lights will dim and a pre-show announcement will begin. Settle in and enjoy!

  • No. Our dancers will tell the story with their movements, gestures, and facial expressions.

  • You don’t have to wait until the end of the performance to clap. If a dancer does something you like, please clap and cheer! Our performers love to hear your reactions and can feel your energy.

If you really like the performance, you can stand up and cheer at the end of the show. This is called a “standing ovation.”

  • Some performances will have a 20-minute intermission. This “break” in the middle of a performance allows for the performers and stage crew to prepare for the second half of the show. Intermission is a great time for audience members to use the restroom, get a refreshment, or chat with others about the first half of the show.

  • If you need to exit for a non-emergency (ex: to use the restroom), please try to wait until the end of a scene to exit. If you are experiencing an emergency, please exit and find an usher to help you if needed.

If you wish to be reseated after you’ve exited the theater, an usher at the theater entrance will assist you.

  • During the performance, we ask that you stay in the moment and refrain from taking photos or videos. You are welcome to take pictures and videos before the curtain rises, during bows at the end of the performance, or afterwards in the theater lobby.

We’d love to see your captured moments, so please tag us @balletcolaboratory if you post on social media!

AFTER THE PERFORMANCE

  • At the conclusion of most performances, audiences can attend a meet-n-greet opportunity with select professional Company dancers. This experience happens in the theater lobby, post-performance, for 15 minutes. Listen to the pre-show announcement to learn if this is available during your performance.
